Opening Ceremony of 2010 Shanghai World Expo

China celebrated the opening of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai on April 30, 2010 (Friday). Fireworks and lasers lit up the sky, as music from Western to Chinese classics and pop filled the air. A lengthy flat screen television stretched across the bank of the Huangpu River – as boats carrying the flags of all the expos participants sailed past.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton attended a reception on April 30 at the Department of State for marking the opening of the USA Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai Expo. Secretary Clinton thanked Department of State employees, USA Pavilion employees and USA Pavilion corporate sponsors for their help preparing for the launch of the USA Pavilion.

About 190 nations and 50 international organizations will participate in the six-month-long event.

2010 年世界博览会在中国上海开幕

2010 年世界博览会于4月30日在上海世博园世博文化中心举行开幕式。黄浦江边焰火照亮了夜空，响彻云霄的乐声将上海外滩带入期待已久的欢乐时刻。

美国国务卿克林顿通过视频为美国馆揭幕。她感谢美国馆工作人员的努力和赞助商的支持。她称赞上海世博会给人们提供了展望未来的机会，而通过美国馆世界人民将更了解美国。

2010世博会将于星期六正式向公众开放。中国首次举办的这次世界博览会约有190多个国家参展，是世博会史上最大规模的一次。在未来几个月展览期间，预计将有7000万来自世界各地游客参观此世博盛会。
